Iranian warships to be deployed in Mediterranean Sea![]() January 17, 2013 - 13:59 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Iranian warships are to be deployed in the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, and the Suez Canal, The Jerusalem Post reported citing Iranian news channel Press TV. "The Navy’s 24th fleet of warships will patrol the Red Sea, Suez Canal and the Mediterranean Sea for three months," Press TV quoted Iran's Navy Commander Habibollah Sayyari as saying. Ships are to also patrol “the north of the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Aden, Bab-el-Mandeb...and even as far as southeastern Asian countries.” Sayyari said the navy is to sail the region to "counter any threat against the interests of the Islamic Republic," in an apparent attempt to fluff feathers in the face of ongoing international debate regarding Iranian nuclear facilities. Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Authorities said a total of 192 Azerbaijani troops were killed and 511 were wounded during Azerbaijan’s offensive. Partner news |
