Afghan national detained in Tajikistan with 65 kilos of drugs

PanARMENIAN.Net - Police have detained an Afghan national in Tajikistan near the Tajik-Afghan border with more than 65 kilograms of drugs, a spokesman for Tajikistan’s Interior Ministry said, according to RIA Novosti.

“As a result of a special operation, a 50-year-old Afghan national, Abdulokhir Alimakhmad, was detained on suspicion of drug trafficking on January 16,” Makhmadullo Asadulloyev said on Thursday.

“He had four bags containing 65.6 kilograms of cannabis group drugs,” Asadulloyev said.

In 2012, Tajik law enforcement bodies and security structures seized about 6 tons of drugs, including 515 kg of heroin, 630 kg of raw opium and some 4.8 tons of cannabis group drugs. The volume of seized drugs increased 41.1 percent on 2011.
