1 killed as magnitude-6.0 quake hits Indonesia

PanARMENIAN.Net - One person was killed and at least eight injured after an earthquake struck Indonesia’s Aceh province on Tuesday, Jan 22, an official said, according to DPA.

The magnitude-6.0 quake occurred at 5:22 am (1022 GMT Monday) with an epicenter 15 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital, Banda Aceh, according to the geophysics agency. It had a depth of 84 kilometers.

An 8-year-old girl was killed and eight people in Pidie district were injured by falling debris as a result of the quake, the local emergency agency said.

The quake sparked panic in Banda Aceh. Residents rushed out of their homes, fearing a tsunami.
