Mundial nabs Gael García Bernal’s

PanARMENIAN.Net - Mundial has acquired the Gael García Bernal-produced documentary "Who Is Dayani Cristal?", TheWrap said.

The film was the first to screen at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Directed by Marc Silver, the documentary is produced by Lucas Ochoa, Thomas Benski and Bernal, who also stars in it.

The movie retraces the journey of Dayani Cristal, an immigrant whose body was discovered rotting along the border between Arizona and Mexico. Tattooed on his body was his name. Throughout the film, Bernal investigates who the man was and shows how difficult the journey into the United States is for many trying to cross the border.

The deal was brokered by Mundial's vice president Cristina Garza, along with Stuart Ford, Jonathan Deckter and Ben Rekhi of Mundial's parent company IM Global. Producers Benski, Ochoa and Sam Sniderman of Pulse Films also negotiated the deal, while Josh Braun of Submarine handled U.S. rights.

"We couldn't be more proud to have acquired such an evocative and relevant film for Mundial's first acquisition," Garza said in a statement.

"Who Is Dayani Cristal?" joins feature-length drama "Manto Acuifero" and comedy "Paraiso" on the newly-formed Mundial's first-ever slate of films.
