IN LESS THAN 2 DAYS 80 HOUSE MEMBERS JOINED RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

PanARMENIAN.Net - Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) announced that in less than 2 days, 80 of his House colleagues have joined as co-sponsors of his resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide. The Schiff resolution commemorates the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923 and urges Turkey to acknowledge the role of the Ottoman Empire in those atrocities. The resolution also urges Turkey to go beyond recognition of the Genocide and reach a just resolution with the Armenian people. Turkish recognition of the Genocide would be a requirement of congressional support for Turkish accession to the European Union. "I'm gratified by the dramatic and swift show of support for Genocide recognition by my colleagues, and urge citizens around the country to call their Members of Congress and urge them to co-sponsor these bills," said Schiff. "If we are going to pass a Genocide Resolution in this 90th year, we will have to fight hard for passage. The time is now. I look forward to working with all those committed to recognition of the Armenian Genocide to further strengthen the bill as it moves through committee."
