Observers: Ombudsman’s involvement in electoral processes importantJanuary 23, 2013 - 20:42 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan met Jan 23 with OSCE/ODIHR observer mission head, Ambassador Heidi Tagliavini and Legal Analyst Elissavet Karagiannidou 2012 parliamentary polls and the upcoming presidential elections were in the focus of the discussion, with the mission representatives stressing the role of the involvement of the human rights defender in the electoral processes. The guests further raised a number of issues related to the small number of local and international experts, lack of public trust in electoral processes, the Ombudsman’s involvement in the working group. Ms Tagliavini further voiced hope for long term cooperation with the human rights defender’s office, adding that OSCE/ODIHR observers attach special importance to the works carried out by the Ombudsman.
