Presidential vote to be delayed over candidate Hayrikyan's shooting?

PanARMENIAN.Net - Presidential vote in Armenia may be delayed if an injured candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan is proved unable to continue with the campaign.

On late Thursday, January 31, Hayrkyan was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound.

As a Central Election Committee spokesperson Hermine Harutyunyan told PanARMENIAN.Net CEC refrains from commenting on the issue.

Article 53 of Constitution stipulates for a 2-week delay in presidential poll in case insurmountable difficulties prevent one of the candidates from running for the post.

In case of a candidate’s death, new elections are scheduled to be held in 40 days.

Armenia’s presidential elections are slated for February 18, 2013.
