Raffi Hovannissian to hold peaceful rallies on Feb 23-25February 22, 2013 - 12:50 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Former presidential candidate, Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannissian has announced a decision to hold peaceful rallies on Feb 23- 25, despite the municipality’s refusal to grant permission. Asked by a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter as to the organization of the rallies without municipality’s permission, the party’s vice-chairman Armen Martirosyan said, “Under RA Constitution, we are authorized to hold peaceful rallies. Besides, Armenia has joined different conventions, granting citizens the right to hold peaceful rallies, with the European Council convention among them.” As it was reported earlier, Yerevan Municipality didn’t authorized former presidential candidate, Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannissian to hold rallies on February 23, 24, 25. “Mr Hovannissian’s authorized representative Armen Martirosyan submitted the reports on the planned rallies on Feb 20. The applications have been recalled, as under RA law on freedom of assembly, they must be presented no later than 7 days before the rally,” the municipality’s press service reported.
