"Samir Abu el Maati, head of the Appeals Court, has set April 13 as the retrial date for former President Hosni Mubarak and his interior minister Habib al-Adly,” the court official said. The court agreed in January to hold a retrial for Mubarak who appealed against his life sentence for involvement in the killing of the hundreds of protesters. Mubarak, 84, was overthrown in February 2011 after an 18-day popular uprising. He was sentenced in June 2012 to life imprisonment by an Egyptian court “for failure to stop the killing of protesters by the Egyptian security forces during the revolt.” Over 800 people were killed and 6,000 injured during the revolt.
