Vimeo unveils on-demand self-distribution serviceMarch 12, 2013 - 18:54 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Vimeo, a video sharing network that rivals Google's YouTube, has launched a new self-distribution service enabling creators to sell their works and pocket most of the revenue, Digital Spy said. Vimeo On Demand is a way to distribute videos to the 93 million monthly Vimeo users worldwide. Vimeo will take a 10% cut of sales, with creators getting the rest. Launched at SXSW Interactive in Austin, Texas, Vimeo On Demand gives creators a low-cost way to distribute films and video to a big audience across desktop, mobile (Android/iOS/Windows), connected TV devices (Apple TV/Roku/Google TV/Xbox Live), and smart TV platforms (Samsung/Panasonic/Phillips). The service gives creators flexibility and control over distribution, including options to set the price of their content, along with the countries where it should be offered. Content available at launch includes movie It's Such a Beautiful Day, from Academy Award-nominated animator Don Hertzfeldt, which is available to rent on Vimeo for $2 or purchase for $6. Creators can decide whether to offer the videos on Vimeo, their own website, or both. But the feature is only available to Vimeo Pro Members.
