Argentina’s Armenian community congratulates new pope

PanARMENIAN.Net - Argentina’s Armenian community issued a statement, welcoming the election of Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio as Catholic Church's Pope.

As then archbishop of Buenos Aires, Bergoglio attended the community’s events, particularly those held in commemoration of Armenian Genocide victims. He was always Armenian community’s friend despite the difference between Catholic and Apostolic traditions. Both church hierarchies served a liturgy in memory of Genocide victims during Catholicos Karekin II’s visit.

The new Pope has been greeted with hundreds of Twitter accounts. Twitter said about 130,000 tweets per minute were sent about the new Pope.
