Act of Terrorism Took Place in Armenian Parliament This Day Six Years Ago

PanARMENIAN.Net - Wreaths were laid to the monument to the victims of the act of terrorism in the Parliament on October 27, 1999. PM Vazgen Sargsyan, Speaker Karen Demirchyan, Vice-Speakers Yuri Bakhshyan and Ruben Miroyan, Minister for Operative Issues Leonard Petrosyan, MP Armen Armenakyan and academician of the National Academy of Sciences, MP Mikayel Kotanyan were killed in the terrorist attack. This day six year ago shots were heard at the National Assembly of Armenia. Terrorists were former journalist Hairi Hunanyan, who had worked at the Armenian TV Company, his brother Karen Hunanyan and their uncle Aram Hunanyan. The trial began February 15, 2001. Amnesty decree came into effect June 20, 2001 due to the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of adoption of Christianity. December 2, 2003 first instance court of Center and Nork-Marash communities of Yerevan announced the verdict on the case of the act of terrorism in the Parliament. 6 of the accused - Nairi and Karen Hunanyans, Edik Grigoryan, Vram Galstyan, Derenik Bejanyan and Ashot Knyazyan - were sentenced to life imprisonment. Another prisoner at bar - Hamlet Stepanyan - is sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment. All the 7 persons are found guilty on a number of articles of Armenia's Criminal Code, including treason of fatherland and terrorism, reported IA Regnum.
