The Palm Sunday was celebrated on March 24 in 2013, starting the Holy week before the Feast of the Glorious Resurrection of Christ. The Holy Thursday, devoted to the Last Supper, this year will be celebrated on March 28. This evening starts with a solemn service, which is an introduction to the Good Friday, and symbolizes Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. On the Good Friday, the Service of the Crucifixion is held during the day. Upon the completion of the evening prayer service, a Burial Service is performed, when Jesus Christ’s symbolic tomb, decorated with flowers and tree shoots, is processed around the church. On Sunday, March 31, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated with a solemn Divine Liturgy. The Resurrection of Christ is the basis of the Christian faith and symbolizes the victory of life and light over death and darkness. Also called Zatik in Armenian, it means severance, separation, liberation from sins and the return to God. The Easter is one of the five major feasts of the Armenian Church. On April 7, the Church will commemorate one of its most important feasts – the Annunciation of Virgin Mary. The Annunciation Day is declared a day of blessing of the motherhood, with a Blessing Service held in churches. The Holy Saturday, called the Candlelight Easter, symbolizes the destruction of the hell and the liberation of the righteous souls. With the Holy Saturday Liturgy, the celebration of Easter is started.
