Oskanian Sure Karabakh Settlement will Be Based on People Right to Self-Determination

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Nagorno Karabakh conflict will be settled on the basis of peoples' right to self-determination, stated Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian at a meeting with the teaching staff and students of Yerevan State University. Solution of conflicts available in the world is viewed in the political plane, not in the historical one or human rights, he remarked. Although the principle of peoples' right to self-determination has become subject to serious discussion in international structures and countries mediating the Karabakh conflict settlement, he added. "Certain progress is available here. I am sure the Nagorno Karabakh conflict will be solved on the basis of peoples' right to self-determination. First of all it is necessary to ensure that Azerbaijan recognizes that principle. Baku recognition of peoples' right to self-determination will allow proceeding to elimination of conflict consequences," V. Oskanian stated. As of the coming parliamentary election in Azerbaijan and their possible impact upon the negotiation process, the Armenian FM remarked, "serious upheaval in Azerbaijan, the weakening of the authorities will undoubtedly influence the talks. If everything is ok, the talks on conflict settlement will resume in 2006", reported IA Regnum.
