Aleppo Armenian abducted by Islamists, given 3 months in jail

PanARMENIAN.Net - A member of Aleppo’s Armenian community, the head of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) office Hagop Mikaelyan was abducted on Wednesday, May 21 while travelling to Beirut, Agos daily reported.

The 70-year-old Mikaelyan, who had health problems, was kidnapped by Islamist rebel group al-Nusra.

According to Mikaelyan’s family, the AGBU office head was further court martialled and sentenced to 3 months in prison for supporting Syrian President and participating in pro-Assad rallies.
