Intel says Haswell processors to boost laptop battery life by 50%

PanARMENIAN.Net - Next month, Intel is planning to debut its post-Ivy Bridge processors during Taiwain's Computex trade show, IGN reported citing Computerworld.

The next generation CPUs are aimed primarily at laptop and hybrid tablet manufacturers, offering increased battery life and performance. But desktop users can also expect a considerable boost in power.

The PC market continues to struggle, facing slowing sales margins in the face of a growing tablet and mobile landscape, and Intel hopes its processors--dubbed Haswell--will find a convergence point. According to Intel's Rani Borkar, the Haswell line will offer a significant boost in battery life without compromising performance.

Intel is expected to debut the Haswell processors in Taipei, Taiwan next month, showing how the increased battery life can benefit notebooks and hybrid tablet devices. Additionally, Intel claims the new chips will offer "double the graphics performance" for laptops, and triple the performance for desktop PCs.

Reportedly, the Haswell chips will reduce power consumption to 7 watts; a significant leap from the 10 watt Ivy Bridge Core processors.
