PACE President says democratic reforms in Armenia importantMay 30, 2013 - 14:41 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On May 30, Armenian parliament speaker Hovik Abrahamyan met with President of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Jean-Claude Mignon. National Assembly speaker noted Armenia’s chairmanship in Council of Europe as an important event, enabling the country to get involved in the formation of CoE agenda aiming to promote democracy, human rights and human values. He attached importance to cooperation with the Council of Europe, as well as the organization’s support to democratic reforms in the country. Dwelling on Nagorno Karabakh conflict resolution, Abrahamyan expressed Armenia’s readiness to take efforts in the peaceful settlement of the problem, based on the principles of people’s right to self-determination, non-use of force and territorial integrity. Fro his part, Jean-Claude Mignon stressed the importance of democratic reforms in Armenia, underscoring the role of PACE in the process. He pledged to support the implementation of the initiatives during Armenia’s chairmanship. As for Karabakh issue, he said the problem must be solved in the framework of OSCE Minsk Group, peaceful talks and Madrid principles.
