Bird Flu: UN Experts Arriving in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Experts of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will arrive in Armenia today, the Ministry of Agriculture of Armenia reported yesterday, January 20. The arrival of the experts is due to Armenia being a bird flu risk zone, as there were cases of bird death in eastern regions of Turkey adjacent to Armenia. Earlier the Armenian Government approved a National Program of resisting to bird flu epidemic. "The Government decision is due to the threat of bird flu virus penetration to Armenia," the Government Press Service reported. According to Armenian Ministry of Health official reports, no cases of bird flu are registered in the country by now. 21 confirmed cases of disease were detected in Turkey, 5 persons died, reported Russian media.
