Austria withdrawing its UN peacekeepers from Golan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Austria has begun to withdraw its UN peacekeepers from the Golan, according to The Jerusalem Post.

Plans to evacuate 378 Austrians were made after two UN peacekeepers were injured when Syrian rebels rebels seized the Quneitra crossing earlier this month.

A witness of Arabic news network Al Jazeera claims to have seen armored personnel-carriers transporting Austrians to the main UN base on the Israeli side of the border.

“There isn’t a large number of them but it’s a significant that they’ve already started to come out,” the witness said, adding that Austria is expected to remove the rest of its force later this month.
