James McAvoy in "Filth" Welsh novel adaptation trailer (video)

PanARMENIAN.Net - James McAvoy both chases down -- and is -- the "Filth" in the new trailer for the eponymously-named movie, TheWrap said.

Corrupt Detective Sergeant Bruce Robertson (McAvoy) used to be a good person, or so he says. But now, he's pretty much disgusting. Robertson uses his status for sexual favors, access to devious venues and, of course, to score drugs. Lots and lots of drugs.

The motivation for the on-screen manipulations of the bipolar, junkie cop seems decent enough though: Robertson wants to earn a promotion in hopes to win back his wife and daughter. However, cocaine, a sex addiction and hallucinogenic drugs get very much in the way.

"Filth" is the fourth film adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novels, following "Trainspotting," "The Acid House" and "Ecstasy."

The film comes out in Scotland -- its setting -- on Sept. 27. It opens across the U.K on Oct. 4. No release date has been announced yet for the U.S.
