Dustin Hoffman on his role in hit comedy "Tootsie" (video)

PanARMENIAN.Net - Dustin Hoffman gets emotional when he talks about his role in 1980s popular comedy movie, "Tootsie". Hoffman, who needed special make up to play Dorothy Michaels in the movie, admitted in an interview with the American Film Institute that he was "brainwashed" about female beauty before taking the project. He even said that the movie was "never a comedy" to him, AceShowbiz said.

At that time, Hoffman agreed that he would take part in the movie on the condition that he could actually pass as a woman. He later had a make up test before the production. Hoffman was glad that he could pass as a woman, but he was disappointed that he could not look more attractive. "That's as beautiful as we can get you, Charlie," his make up artist said.

The disappointed Hoffman went home crying. He said that he had an "epiphany" after realizing that he, as well as many other people, judged women for their appearance. The actor told his wife at home, "I said I have to make this picture, and she said, 'Why?' "

"And I said, 'Because I think I am an interesting woman when I look at myself on screen. And I know that if I met myself at a party, I would never talk to that character because she doesn't fulfill physically the demands that we're brought up to think women have to have in order to ask them out. She says, 'What are you saying?' And I said, 'There's too many interesting women I have... not had the experience to know in this life because I have been brainwashed,'" he explained.
