Christina Hendricks joins Theron in "Dark Places" bestseller adaptation

PanARMENIAN.Net - Charlize Theron just got a new movie mother, and it is Christina Hendricks. The Mad Men actress has gone from a supporting role to a lead in the adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s Dark Places, a best-selling thriller about class, rural America, poverty, opportunism and Satanic cults in the 1980s, Deadline said.

Originally set to play stripper Krissi Cates in the Gilles Paquet-Brenner directed movie, Hendricks now will play Patty Day, the murdered mother of Theron’s Libby Davis character.

The producers offered the role to the Emmy-nominated actress after Samantha Morton fell out.

"Professional victim Libby Day is sullen and unlovable, even to herself - she has, literally, fed off the murder of her mother and sisters all her life, living on donations made by well-wishers. They were killed when she was seven years old, and it was her testimony that sent her 15-year-old brother Ben, a devil-worshipping misfit, to prison for the crimes.

Aged 31, with the fund running low, Libby accepts an invitation from the creepy Kill Club, a group obsessed with true crimes.

Their belief in Ben's innocence makes her question her own version of the past, and she begins to investigate. Set in the American midwest, Flynn's second novel is a wonderful evocation of drab small-town life. The time-split narrative works superbly, and the atmosphere is eerily macabre - Dark Places is even better than the author's award-winning Sharp Objects," a review published by The Guardian said.

Hendrick’s Patty will be seen in a series of flashbacks throughout the movie as the truth of really happened and what Libby really saw becomes clearer.

Also starring Chloe Moretz, Nicholas Hoult and House Of Cards’ Corey Stoll, the pic produced by Exclusive Media, Cuatro Plus Films, Denver & Delilah, Hugo Productions and Mandalay Vision began shooting last week in Louisiana.
