Russian expert urges to review Treaty of MoscowSeptember 19, 2013 - 14:50 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Moscow hosted a presentation of Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute (AGMI) Hayk Demoyan’s monography Turkey’s Foreign Policy and Karabakh Conflict, with politicians and analysts among those attending the event. The presentation was organized by the Russian-Armenian Union jointly with the Institute of Political and Social Studies of Black Sea and Caspian Region. The presentation was hosted by the president of the Russian-Armenian Union Yuri Navoyan. “From the very onset of Karabakh conflict, Turkey has been helping Azerbaijan, extending financial, political and military assistance. Turkey’s support promotes Baku’s uncompromising negotiation policies in Karabakh settlement, as Baku is encouraged with Ankara’s proclamations of “one nation, two states.” Mr Demoyan’s monography is a product of a many years’ research into the reasons behind the Karabakh issue,” Navoyan said. As the book author told the guests, the Russian-language book, meant for wide range of readers, is a result of 15 years of work, including references from over 800 different sources. As the head of the Institute of Political and Social Studies Vladimir Zakharov noted, Demoyan’s book is a unique encyclopedia of the origin of Karabakh that Azeris are trying to appropriate, encyclopedia of relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan where Karabakh becomes a link in a chain that Turkey’s trying to break apart. “Karabakh can’t be discussed without referring to historical facts. The book is truly an eye-opener,” he stressed. A CIS Institute representative Mikhail Alexandrov, in turn, stressed the book as important not only from scientific but practical viewpoints as well. “It could be recommended to Armenian statesmen, scientists, politicians, and it might be similarly important for Russian diplomats,” he said, expressing perplexity over the fact that Russia must observe the Treaty of Moscow while Turkey violates it. He urged to review the treaty, expressing protest against recognizing the Eastern borders of Turkey. “We could refuse to observe it and support the demand of the return of the Western Armenia,” he said, calling on Russian diplomacy to urge Turkey for the compensation of damages inflicted on Armenia. In conclusion, Navoyan reminded the guests that at a Turkic Council Summit meeting, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu reiterated that “Karabakh liberation is a priority in Turkey’s foreign policy.” “Such statements leave no illusions on Turkey’s position on Karabakh as well as the country’s regional policy as whole,” Navoyan said.
