Marion Cotillard, Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner star in writer/director James Gray's period drama. Set in 1921, the film centres around Ewa Cybulski (Cotillard) and her sister Magda, two hopeful immigrants who arrive on Ellis Island from Poland. When Magda is found to be ill, Ewa is left alone on the streets, and taken under the wing of the charming but amoral pimp Bruno Weiss (Phoenix). Ewa discovers that her only hope may lie with Bruno's cousin, the stage magician Orlando (Renner). The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. The Immigrant will open in Belgium and France on November 27, with a UK and North American release scheduled for 2014.
