Armenian-born serviceman dies in Syria rebel shelling

PanARMENIAN.Net - A Syrian army serviceman Hagop Der-Ghazarian, 25, was found dead November 21 after a 3-day search.

The serviceman died November 18 as a tank repair workshop in Harasta was completely destroyed in the rebel shelling. Bodies of people buried under the ruins were identified with difficulty, Perio News Facebook page reported.

Before the war, there were 80,000 Armenians living in Syria, most of them in Aleppo. When hostilities broke out, 10,000 people fled to Armenia while 5,000 settled in neighboring Lebanon. 120,000 people have been killed in the fighting that has ravaged Syria for two-and-a-half years, according to the UN.
