Fire breaks out at major Moscow market

PanARMENIAN.Net - An overnight fire at a sprawling market in Russia's capital was extinguished by firefighters Monday, Dec 16 morning without any casualties, according to RIA Novosti.

The blaze at the Sadovod market on Moscow's southeastern outskirts broke out soon after midnight and spread over a 300-square-meter area. It was put out shortly before 8 a.m., the Emergencies Ministry said.

The ministry did not comment on the cause of the blaze, which was the second time in two months that Sadovod has gone up in flames after another fire at one of the market’s trade pavilions was extinguished in late October.

Sadovod market was also the scene of a massive police raid in October, during which about 1,000 migrants from former Soviet countries were detained as part of a sweeping crackdown on illegal migration at markets around the capital.
