Iran believes regional states can help Karabakh conflict resolution![]() January 18, 2014 - 14:50 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Iran believes that the Nagorno Karabakh conflict can be resolved peacefully and would welcome involvement of the countries of the region in the process, Iran's ambassador to Azerbaijan said, according to Trend news agency. As to possible Iran-Turkey cooperation, Mohsen Pak Ayeen said that the conflict can be resolved “using the regional capabilities.” Recently, in an interview with IRNA, Pak Ayeen said that the unsettled Karabakh conflict harms regional security and implementation of major economic projects. Related links: ![]() ![]() The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army.
