More discussion expected on Zvartnots old terminal January 30, 2014 - 17:36 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The head of the General Department of Civil Aviation (GDCA) Artem Movsisyan issued an official letter to the Public Council chair Vazgen Manukyan. As the letter informed, a Zvartnots airport-related master plan was discussed and approved at the December 26, 2013 governmental sitting. According to the Public Council press service, the sitting also focused on the proposition of the concessioner - Armenia International Airports CJSC - to re-discuss the demolition of the ariport's old terminal. As the concessioner noted, possible solutions will be discussed with the results to be voiced later. The Public Council will follow the progress of discussions, also planning to debate the concessioner-advanced suggestions, ArmeniaToday said. On January 23, As Panorama.am quoted Minasyan as saying that the government of Armenia passed no decision on the demolition of the old terminal, with the issue yet to be discussed and a master plan to be submitted. As Mkitaryan noted, a suggestion was made to announce a contest for optimal ways of the use the old terminal, which, being one of the best buildings of the Soviet modernism era, must not be demolished. He also dismissed the statement of Movsesyan on the planned demolition of the terminal, noting that only the government of Armenia is authorized to decide on the issue, with discussions currently in progress. Commenting on the idea to create an architectural park featuring monuments that symbolized the Armenian capital, Minasyan said that no actual project was initiated, creation of the park being a mere suggestion. In conclusion, Minasyan expressed hope that an optimal method of the old terminal’s operation will be found to avoid losing yet another one of the best buildings in the city.
