London Film Festival’s 2014 dates setFebruary 10, 2014 - 13:23 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - London Film Festival organizers said its 58th edition will run October 8 - 19 at venues across the U.K. capital. Submissions for both feature and short film open Monday, Feb. 10, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Organizers will be hoping to repeat the trick of last year’s event which saw 16 titles — including 12 Years a Slave, Captain Phillips, Philomena, Saving Mr. Banks and Gravity — go on to garner Oscar nominations for this year’s Academy awards. Organizers said the Oscar nominations from films in its lineup will help cement the festival’s “strategic position in the award season calendar” while also “capitalizing on the city’s high population of BAFTA. The 2013 addition, which opened with the European premiere of Captain Phillips and closed with the world premiere of Saving Mr. Banks attracted audiences of 151,000 across a footprint of 20 screens across the UK’s capital, showing 235 fiction and documentary features from 74 countries, with more than 600 filmmakers attending to present their work. Both the opening and closing night films were also beamed into 50 cinemas across the U.K. with live highlights from red carpet arrivals of Paul Greengrass, Tom Hanks for Captain Phillips and John Lee Hancock, Emma Thompson, Tom Hanks, Colin Farrell and Ruth Wilson for Saving Mr. Banks. These screenings reached a further 11,200 people. Related links: Top stories Ara Aivazian said Azerbaijan continues the traditions of Turkey after seizing territories and forced Armenians out.
