Motorola to launch smartwatch powered by Google's Android Wear (video) March 19, 2014 - 14:59 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Motorola is to launch its first smartwatch, the Moto 360, powered by Google's Android Wear, in what they call the "reinvention of the modern day timepiece", Daily Telegraph reports. Slated for sale in the summer, the Moto 360 uses voice recognition technology to enable users to check the weather, message friends and read new notifications by saying "OK Google..." followed by the command of choice. Dickon Isaacs, Wearable Design at Motorola, said it was a very ambitious design with brand new core technical components. The watch is expected to come in metal and leather strap variations, using what Motorola calls premium materials to feel "comfortable and familiar on your wrist." The devices will also act as health and fitness monitor to provide real-time speed on your movements, alongside the distance to your chosen destination. Google is inviting developers to download an Android Wear Developer Preview to tailor existing app notifications for Android smartphones and tablets to watches powered by Android Wear. LG has announced its LG G Watch will also run on the system, in a fourth collaboration between Google and LG. Google said it had also been working on smartwatches with HTC and Samsung.
