Freestyle plans to release Dustin Marcellino’s directorial debut nationally on Sept. 12. Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd, Seth Green and newcomer Blake Rayne star. Producers are Mark G. Mathis, Yochanan Marcellino of City of Peace Films, Matthew Dean Russell, Coke Sams and Clarke Gallivan; Michael Edious Johnson, Yochanan Marcellino and Liotta are exec producers. The film brings together three generations of the Marcellino family — Dustin Marcellino, who directed; his father Yochanan Marcelino; and his grandfather, record producer Jerry Marcelliono. Howard Klausner (“Space Cowboys”) wrote the screenplay, inspired by an idea from Wade Cummins. Liotta and Judd portray the parents. The film also stars Brian Geraghty, Joe Pantoliano, Amanda Crew and Erin Cottrell. The soundtrack includes 20 original songs written by Yochanan Marcellino and his father, Motown record producer Jerry Marcellino with performances by Rayne and City of Peace Record’s artists including The Morph Kings, Darcey and Mo, House of Peace and the Ricky Reece Band. Freestyle’s “God’s Not Dead” has grossed over $23 million domestically in less than two weeks in U.S. theaters. The religious drama is playing on 1,178 screens.
