‘Armenia and Karabakh’ chosen as finalist for Book of the Year AwardsApril 12, 2014 - 10:24 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - ‘Armenia and Karabakh: The Stone Garden Travel Guide’ is one of the best independently published books of the year, according to an announcement by Foreword Reviews, a magazine dedicated to the independent book publishing industry. ‘Armenia and Karabakh’ is one of just four travel books that were recognized as “groundbreaking” by the magazine’s 16th Annual Book of the Year Awards. The subjects of the other finalists were Germany, Switzerland, and The Holy Land. A panel of more than 100 librarians and booksellers reviewed books published during the past year to determine the finalists. Winners will be recognized at the American Library Association’s Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 27. Matthew Karanian, a lawyer in Pasadena, Calif., is the author of ‘Armenia and Karabakh.’ He and Robert Kurkjian, a scientist in Los Angeles, illustrated the book with their original photography. Karanian and Kurkjian are both Armenian Americans, and Karanian says they published the book because of their love for their homeland. The book is dedicated to the author’s parents, Henry and Agnes Karanian, who are both the children of Genocide survivors. Top stories Six total incidents have burned 19 old-growth trees.
