Record number of ethnic Armenians applied for citizenship in 2013

PanARMENIAN.Net - In 2013, President Serzh Sargsyan received 21,000 applications for Armenian citizenship, Chief of the Presidential Staff Vigen Sargsyan said during discussions of the annual report on the 2013 state budget execution in the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs.

A Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MP Levon Martirosyan inquired about the citizenship of the applicants and also asked if there were many Syrian Armenians among them.

“We do not consider the institution of dual citizenship from point of view of applicant’s citizenship. For us, he is a citizen of the Republic of Armenia,” Sargsyan replied.

He also said that he does not have relevant data, but the current dynamics suggests that the number of applicants for Armenian citizenship will increase, Panorama.am reported.
