“Game of Thrones” Season 4 finale brings in record 7.1 million viewersJune 17, 2014 - 13:44 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Game of Thrones wrapped its most-watched season to date in an expectedly big fashion. The Sunday finale of the HBO drama's fourth run was watched by 7.1 million viewers in its 9 p.m. airing, up 32 percent from Thrones' season 3 finale, The Hollywood Reporter said. The gross audience for the finale on Sunday, June 15 counting an additional two airings, was 9.3 million viewers. The show's 9 p.m. airings this season averaged 6.8 million viewers, up 37 percent from last season. It was a season of records for Game of Thrones. On top of the fact that its average gross viewership (18.6 million viewers across platforms and views) now outranks The Sopranos as HBO's biggest original ever, the series hit records on four occasions. The third-season finale of Game of Thrones, which aired almost one year ago to the day, set a then series record of 5.4 million viewers. Every episode of the show's latest run has outperformed that mark. It’s no wonder that HBO was so quick to lock down Game of Thrones for two additional seasons, renewing the drama for seasons five and six shortly after the April return.
