NBC is developing a potential new series based on the 1997 thriller with John Wells and Arnold Kopelson set to executive produce the pilot and Matt Venne penning the script, AceShowbiz said. The legal drama with a supernatural twist landed on NBC with a put pilot commitment. It will focus on a public defender who joins a law firm literally run by the Devil. The original movie starred Keanu Reeves as an ambitious young lawyer who is tempted to trade his soul to the Devil (Al Pacino) for supernatural courtroom skills. Directed by Taylor Hackford, it received generally favorable reviews and earned $153 million worldwide. At the same time NBC is adapting "The Devil's Advocate" to the small screen, Reeves lands his first TV series gig. The "Matrix" actor is set to lead an hourlong series titled "Rain", which is based on the best-selling book series by Barry Eisler. The action drama show has not been acquired by any network.
