Armenia, Georgia PMs talk trade, tourism, regional stability

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan and his Georgian counterpart Irakli Garibashvili issued a statement following a meeting in Yerevan, Tert.am reported.

According to the Armenian official, a number of issues of bilateral trade, as well as economic, cultural, educational cooperation were discussed.

“A need for further Armenian-Georgian intergovernmental meetings was stressed; modernization of checkpoints, particularly the Bagratashen-Sadakhlo one, was thoroughly discussed. The problem of the landslide in the Upper Lars was addressed. The talks took place in a constructive atmosphere typical of friendly nations,” Abrahamyan said.

Georgia’s premier, in turn, thanked his Armenian counterpart for a warm reception. He noted that the sides were unanimous on the need for further development of the bilateral cooperation.

“During the first six months of this year, we have increased our trade turnover by 42%, which proves the development of our economic relations. Of paramount importance are high-level meetings not only between the governments, but also between agencies. We discussed issues of consolidating regional stability, the uptrend in tourism, and agreed to do our best to deepen bilateral cooperation in this sector,” Garibashvili said.

The sides reached an agreement on joint construction of a Friendship Bridge.

Georgia’s premier is scheduled to hold meetings with President Serzh Sargsyan, parliament speaker Galust Sahakyan and other high-ranking officials.
