Red Cross reps. meet Armenian captive in Baku

PanARMENIAN.Net - Representatives of the Baku Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) met the Azeri-captured Armenian citizen Sargis Ananyan.

As the ICRC Yerevan Office representative Hasmik Galstyan told PanARMENIAN.Net the captive was given a letter from his family, the family was given information about Ananyan.

Earlier, Azerbaijani authorities confirmed the information that on August 26 an Armenian citizen crossed the Armenia-Azerbaijan border near the Azerbaijani village of Kamerli.

The Armenian citizen who crossed the border is 53-year-old Sargis Ananyan, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said in a statement, noting that the man is currently under the supervision of doctors and he is being treated in accordance with norms of international law.

According to the Armenian voters register, Ananyan is registered in the city of Noyemberyan in Armenia’s Tavush province.

Meanwhile, the Yerevan Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reported to be working on the issue of Ananyan. However, they said, Ananyan’s family never turned to the Red Cross for assistance.
