Swedish bestseller-based dramedy “Man Called Ove” finds buyers

PanARMENIAN.Net - A Man Called Ove, the dramedy based on the best-selling novel of the same name from Swedish blogger Fredrik Backman, has sold for Germany and Benelux ahead of its market debut at the AFM in Santa Monica later this week, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

Concorde picked up German rights for the feature and September Film Distribution snatched rights for Benelux from sales outfit TrustNordisk. Annica Bellander is producing A Man Called Ove for Swedish shingle Tre Vanner (Easy Money). The film is expected to deliver for December 2015.

Backman's book, about a determined curmudgeon whose grumpy-old-man routine is put to the test when a young family moves in next door to him, has been a huge best-seller in Sweden and Germany. Simon and Schuster publish the U.S. version of A Man Called Ove.

TrustNordisk had major sales success with another Swedish novel adaptation, The 100-year-old Man Who Climbed Out a Window and Disappeared, which was the highest-grossing film in Sweden last year.
