As Posta daily reported earlier, Turkey’s ambassador to Paris Hakki Akil handed the prize to Aznavour on behalf of the residents of Izmit, where the ceremony is usually held. “If my Izmit-born mother saw her fellow citizens award me the prize, she would surely have been happy,” Aznavour was quoted as saying. Posta also suggested that producer Erkan Ozerman interviewed Aznavour, with the singer making a number of pro-Turkish statements.
