Parliament ratifies Eurasian Economic Union accession treaty

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian parliament voted 103 to 7 (with one abstention) to ratify the Treaty on Armenia’s Accession to the Eurasian Economic Union.

Five out of 6 parliamentary groups voted for ratification.

Armenia formally joined the Eurasian Economic Union on October 10. The agreement was signed by the heads of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia in Minsk, Belarus. The agreement on establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union comes into force in 2015.

Armenia's accession to the Treaty was actively discussed due to the border issue, concerning the conflict over Nagorno Karabakh.

As Nazarbayev stated on Friday, “a compromise was reached on the delicate issue – the borders of Armenia’s accession to the Union, with the issue now off the table.”
