The sports film follows the 1987 true story of a farming-town in California, where teacher Jim White (Costner) finds inspiration in the town's youth. Discovering a group of boys with exceptional running ability, the coach sets up a cross-country team and enters them into competitions. The boys find that they need to overcome various difficulties in order to become champions, and the team learn a lot about one another when the pressure is raised. McFarland, USA's cast also includes Maria Bello, Morgan Saylor, Michael Aguero and Sergio Avelar. The film is set for release on February 20, 2015 in the US.
