Ameria, FCC host seminar on foodborne disease risks in YerevanMarch 6, 2015 - 12:16 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Ameria Management Advisory Services held a two-day seminar in Yerevan on assessment of foodborne disease risks. Together with well-known Scottish Food Control Consultants (FCC), Ameria Management Advisory Services is currently implementing a WB-funded disease control capacity building project in Armenia. The aim is to support establishment of a special zoonotic and foodborne disease control system in the country, ARKA reports. The main aim of the project is to build capacities for the state food safety service to control zoonotic diseases and assess the risks and sources in particular, said Tigran Jrbashyan, head of development at Ameria Group of Companies. The project is of particular interest to Ameria, especially in terms of software, data collection and analysis, Jrbashyan said. The company tried to understand the problems and the risks in the field and ways of responding, as well as what kind of support the food safety service needs, he said. The head of the expert group Boyko Likov said the aim of the project is to enhance the control capacities of the food safety service. The comprehensive study of zoonotic diseases showed brucellosis is the main widespread zoonotic infection in Armenia, with its disease rate being 60-70% higher in Armenia compared to EU countries, he said. Likov said they developed mechanisms of control over the animals (cows, sheep, goats). Likov also said echinococcus and salmonellas are also common in the country. Reports about the diseases from various regions of the country should be analyzed by the food safety risk assessment and analysis center for better control, Likov said. Danish expert Olafur Valson said all the respective bodies should be involved in the “fieldwork”, bearing in mind its scale and the time restrictions. Vets are the main “acting persons” in combatting the zoonotic diseases, he said. Expert Tsovinar Melkom-Melkonyan, in her turn, said the analysis revealed a need for livestock inventory in the country. Ameria is Armenia’s flagship advisory company. The company’s main focuses are corporate reorganization, mergers and acquisition, legal consulting, direct and portfolio investments, business planning, strategic and tax planning, financial consulting, state administration and reforms. As a part of Ameria Group, the company provides independent confidential and unbiased consulting services in five areas: business, finance, accounting, tax, legal and investment.
