The Oscar-winning movie earned a total of $221 million in the U.S. alone, thus becoming Walt Disney Animation Studios' third biggest domestic release of all time, AceShowbiz reports. Even greater, the film's worldwide total has successfully surpassed that of "Tangled", making it the studio's third biggest global release after "Frozen (2013)" and "The Lion King". In China, "Big Hero 6" has become Disney's biggest animated release, earning $51 million since being released in the country on February 28. In foreign markets Korea, Russia, and Japan, meanwhile, the big screen feature became the second biggest animated release by Disney, grossing more than $75 million in the so-called "Land of the Rising Sun". In Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia, it was the top animated release of all time. Based on Marvel comics of the same name, "Big Hero 6" tells the story of "the special bond that develops between Baymax, a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada as they team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes."
