Armenian officer dies in Azeri ceasefire violation![]() April 7, 2015 - 16:32 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Senior non-commissioned officer Hayk Keshishoglyan, born in 1972, was killed in Azeri ceasefire violation. The incident occurred in military unit N. located in the northeastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, Armenian media report. A criminal case has been initiated. Azerbaijan’s armed forces shelled the Nagorno Karabakh line of contact overnight, targeting Armenian villages and defense positions, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense said on April 6. “There was gunfire, though not critical,” Artsrun Hovhannisyan said. The adversary also opened gunfire on villagers working in vineyards in the Tavush region on Monday, April 6 morning. The report was later confirmed by Varuzhan Baghmanyan, the governor of the community Choratan. No deaths or injuries were reported ![]() ![]() The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now. ![]() ![]() As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed.
