  Full-on retaliation for Azeri aggression may lead to war: Defense Ministry April 10, 2015 - 18:54 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s adopting “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth” principle in retaliating to Azeri aggression may lead to a full-scale war, Defense Ministry’s spokesperson said, according to Artsakhpress. Artsrun Hovhannisyan made the statement at a news conference on Friday, April 10 when asked to comment on Armenia’s somewhat passive reaction to the acts of aggression provoked by the adversary. Armine Sadikyan, a coordinator of peace projects at the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly, warned against attributing the losses in the military only to the violations of ceasefire, noting that the fatalities caused by such violations accounted only for 25% of deaths from 2010 until 2014. She said that the number rose to 50% only after intense acts of sabotage along the frontline since August.    The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
