Postal drones to take to the skies of Switzerland this summerApril 25, 2015 - 12:07 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Switzerland's post will come from the skies this summer, as the country's postal service starts testing deliveries via drone, according to Digital Spy. The Swiss Post is working with transportation system specialists Matternet to get the project going, using its fleet of ONE drones. The company is hoping to deliver lighter packages such as medicine and documents on the ONEs, which can carry up to 2.2lbs for about 12 miles on a single charge. "The primary aim of this pilot project is a proof of concept to clarify the legal framework, consider local conditions, and explore the technical and business capabilities of the drones," Matternet said in a statement. Should trials prove successful, Swiss Post may consider deploying postal drones permanently.
