Channing Tatum to topline "The Forever War" sci-fi novel adaptationMay 1, 2015 - 12:44 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Channing Tatum is set to star in an adaptation of Joe Haldeman's 1974 sci-fi novel "The Forever War". Tatum will be the leading actor in the film which has been in the works for years, AceShowbiz reports. Based on Haldeman's own experiences in the Vietnam War, the movie centers on a young man, named William Mandella, who is conscripted into a military task force during a war against an alien species named the Taurans. Due to the space-traveling, Mandella ages only months while Earth spins centuries. The planet undergoes many changes including several changes to human civilization. In the meantime, he also maintains his relationship with woman fellow soldier, Marygay Potter, who also uses space-time to slow down her aging. In 2008, Ridley Scott picked up the rights with plans to direct the movie. David Peoples, Matthew Michael Carnahan, and Dante Harper were in charge to write the script. But now, the director is no longer involved with the project. Recent news revealed that there was a bidding war among three famous studios, including Warner Bros. and Sony, over the movie, which was eventually won by Warner Bros. Richard Edlund, who first picked up the movie rights in the 1970s, will still be involved as a producer. Roy Lee will also produce the movie along with Tatum, while John Spaihts, who wrote "Prometheus", is on board to write the script.
