Budyonnovsk: Armenian Khachkar Destroyed by Vandals to Be Restored by City Day

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian Khachkar (cross stone), which is part of the monument complex to "Founder Fathers of Holy Cross" in the town of Budyonnovsk and was destroyed by vandals will be restored by the City Day and will be pub in its place on September 17. According to the Yerkramas, the newspaper of Armenians of Russia, the new Khachkar is taller and larger than the previous one, but it is made of black tuff instead of orange one. In the center of the Khachkar there is an open door, which symbolizes transfer from one life to another and reminds that ancestors look at us and thus the link between generations is preserved. The outline of the Khachkar is decorated with pomegranate flowers, meaning progress and development.



Well-known Armenian master Kamsar Kazaryan and two his apprentices work over the Khachkar. The latest work of the master before arriving to Budyonnovsk is the sculpture of Charles Aznavour in Ashtarak, Armenia. Kazaryan and his apprentices will also work over decoration of an Armenian church. In the sculptor's words, he is inspired by the belief that light always wins over the dark. "We will win as well," he said. Speaking of the Khachkar destroyed in Budyonnovsk he remarked, "No one will ever think to destroy anything in Armenia.
