Black Sabbath, Hozier, Ed Sheeran honored at Ivor Novello Awards

PanARMENIAN.Net - Black Sabbath, Hozier, Ed Sheeran and the Manic Steet Preachers walked away with prizes at May 21's 60th anniversary Ivor Novello Awards, Gigwise reports.

Fifteen Ivor Novello Awards were presented at the ceremony held at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London. Ed Sheeran was named songwriter of the year after an incredibly successful year which saw his album x top charts - even before he sold out Wembley Stadium three times over. Similarly blessed with success on both sides of the Atlantic, Hozier's remarkable 'Take Me To Church' was also recognised by being named best song musically and lyrically.

There were a number of surprises at the ceremony. Bombay Bicyle Club so Long See you Tomorrow beat both Royal Blood and Wild Beasts to the Best Album prize. Clean Bandit won two awards for Rather Be including beating alt-J and FKA Twigs for best contemporary song.

A number of musical legends were also celebrated. The Manic Street Preachers were given the Ivors NInspiration award. Bob Geldof and Midge Ure were honoured with the Ivors special anniversary award, while Black Sabbath legends Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward were given the lifetime achievement award. Annie Lennox received the BASCA fellowship.
