Facebook unveils GIFs on timelinesMay 30, 2015 - 12:00 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Facebook has finally introduced support for GIFs, making it easier for users to share the popular short-form videos online, Digital Spy said. Moving GIFs can now be embedded onto timelines by copying and pasting the relevant URL into a post or comment. Which may well mean that your timeline starts to include even more funny animals and comedy moments from now on. Facebook already had GIF support in an unofficial sense thanks to video search engine Giphy, which offered a workaround solution, but they didn't always work as intended. Files uploaded directly to Facebook will not play in timelines as all playable content must be linked to online, hosted on sites such as Tumblr or Imgur. Not all users have the functionality yet, but some those who have received the update have already started a community dedicated to their favourite clips. Rival social network Twitter converts GIFs into regular videos to display them on the web, a similar method that Giphy employed to host them on Facebook.
